Multi-Document Processing for AI Agents
Extract meaning across documents, not one file at a time. Give your agent the ability to compare, verify and reason across related documents.
A purchase, an invoice, a contract or an application rarely lives in a single file. Claix lets agents process several files as one operation and return the result the workflow needs.
Feature documentation
The real problem
Important information is distributed across files
An invoice shows what a supplier charges, not whether the goods were ordered or delivered. A contract defines the original terms; an amendment changes them. A form contains an address that has to be checked against another document.
When each file is processed alone, the application receives isolated outputs and has to build the intelligence layer itself: match fields, compare values, find contradictions, detect missing information and decide what matters.
Document A → extracted data
Document B → extracted data
Document C → extracted data

Match, compare, detect gaps, decideOne task
Several documents, one business question
With Claix the workflow starts from the question: do these documents refer to the same supplier, do the totals match, which quantities differ, what changed in the contract, which offer is stronger, does the application match the supporting files.
The result is not only a pile of extracted fields. It is an answer based on the relationship between the documents. Ask for a boolean, a string, an integer, a timestamp or an array.
Documents + Business question → Cross-document processing → Structured result Do the totals match? → false Which fields differ? → ["total", "quantity"] What is the renewal date? → "2027-10-15"
What Claix adds
Compare, detect, verify, then act
Read the endpoint reference for the request shape: up to 10 files, typed questions, and optional context retention.
Compare documents
Invoice versus purchase order, ordered versus delivered quantity, contract versus amendment, application versus identity document, quotes across suppliers.
Detect inconsistencies
Different names, addresses, dates, quantities, prices, missing clauses, or a fact present in one file and absent from another.
Verify before an action
Read, compare, verify, decide, then act or escalate — before approving a payment, opening an account or accepting a claim.
Less application-side matching
Express the comparison as a question instead of building field-matching, normalisation and conflict rules for every format.
Compared with separate extraction
Isolated fields versus one case
| Separate extraction | Multi-document processing |
|---|---|
| Each document is handled independently | Documents are processed as one case |
| The application compares outputs | Claix answers cross-document questions |
| Developers write matching logic | Comparison is expressed as a question |
| The output is a set of isolated fields | The output reflects document relationships |
| More orchestration per file | One call can produce the comparison |
Who it is for
Teams that decide from a set of files
AI agent builders
Finance, legal, procurement, onboarding, claims, compliance, operations and support agents.
SaaS products
Expense, procurement, contract, insurance, onboarding, compliance and support tools that accept customer files.
Fintech and insurance
Invoice matching, supplier onboarding, payment review, loan checks, and claims that mix forms, photos and receipts.
Legal operations and agencies
Agreements plus amendments, due diligence, and client workflows that should not need a new comparison pipeline each time.
Use cases
High-value document sets
Invoice matching
Invoice, purchase order and delivery note. Compare supplier, quantities, prices and totals, then approve or escalate.
Contract and amendment review
Original, amendment and schedule. Identify changed dates, pricing, obligations and conflicting clauses.
Customer onboarding
Application, identity document and company information. Confirm matches, request a missing file or escalate.
Insurance claims
Claim form, report, images and receipts. Check dates and amounts, then route the claim.
Procurement and policy
Quotes in different formats, or a policy against an expense report and receipts.
Support and hiring
Email, screenshot, log and invoice — or resume, application and certifications — reviewed as one case.
Agents
How agents use the result
The agent is not only a document reader. It can verify before acting, work with the case as a whole, and return a match status, a discrepancy list, a missing-document list or a review task.
A missing comparison is not the same as a mismatch. If the files do not contain enough information, the agent can request another document, ask for clarification or mark the workflow incomplete instead of deciding without evidence.
Process → Compare → Detect issue → Explain the issue → Escalate or continue
Not RAG
Multi-document processing versus RAG
RAG helps an agent find information in a knowledge collection. Multi-document processing helps an agent understand relationships across the files in a case.
| RAG | Multi-document processing |
|---|---|
| Retrieves from stored knowledge | Processes the files submitted now |
| Designed for repeated queries | Designed for a specific document task |
| Usually needs an indexed collection | Does not require prior indexing |
| Retrieval is the central operation | Cross-document extraction is the central operation |
Optional persistence
Temporary cases, or context you can ask again
Most comparisons belong to one request: upload, process together, return the result, finish. Documents do not have to be stored first.
If the workflow needs follow-up questions, context can be retained. The default stays lightweight and temporary. Your application still owns the business action: approve, reject, create a task, request a document, update a record or notify a reviewer.
Frequently asked questions
- What is multi-document processing?
- It is the ability to submit several related files together and extract, compare or verify information across them in one operation.
- Is this a RAG feature?
- No. It processes the files submitted for the current task. It does not retrieve from a pre-existing knowledge base.
- Can it compare different formats?
- Yes. A call can combine supported formats such as PDFs, spreadsheets, Word documents, images, text and audio. See the multi-document documentation.
- Can it detect contradictions or missing information?
- Yes. Ask which values, dates, quantities, names or terms disagree, and which required information is absent.
- Does it replace business logic or human review?
- No. Claix compares the documents. Your agent decides the next action and can escalate when evidence is insufficient, a file is unreadable or documents disagree.
- Do documents need to be stored first?
- No. The core workflow processes the files in the request. Optional context retention is available when you need to reuse them.
Give your agent the complete case.
Upload related documents, ask what needs to be compared and receive the cross-document information required for the next action. Multiple documents. One workflow. Cross-document intelligence.
